Active Ingredient : Triterpenes 10%, Asiaticoside 10% & Saponins 20%
Common Name : Pennywort, Indian Pennywort
Chemical Constituents and Components : Main chemical components are bacoside A and B, asiaticoside, indocentelloside, brahmoside, brahminoside, thankuniside, isothankuniside, mesoinosterol and centellose.
Action : Triterpenes: 1. It reduces the immobility time and ameliorates the imbalance of amino acid levels in brain tissues. 2. It improves the function of HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis and increasing the contents of monoamine neurotransmitters. 3. It protects against the deterioration of microcirculation due to diabetic microangiopathy. 4. It stimulates collogen synthesis thus helpful in wound healing. Saponins / Asiaticosides: 1. It causes inhibitory effect on the expression and activity of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) during gastric ulcer healing. 2. It stimulates the reticuloendothelial system where new blood cells are formed and old ones destroyed. 3. It decreases lipid peroxidation and enhanced induction of antioxidant levels.
Curing Diseases : 1. It is used to cure alcoholic liver diseases, periodontal diseases, scleroderma and peripheral vascular diseases.
2. It is taken in treatment of leprosy, venereal diseases, malaria, varicose veins and ulcers.
3. It stimulates healing of skin injuries, ulcers and wounds and decrease capillary fragility.
Research Information : Centella asiatica extract shows significant hepatoprotective property. It shows increases in total protein level and albumin and inhibits the effect of hepatotoxic material.
